Nature Reconstructed

Clare Ross is a Canadian artist whose imaginative photographs have captured audiences and awards near and far. By reconstructing figures from the natural world, she explores the opposing desires we’ve all often felt – to be fully immersed in nature and its beauty and yet retain the many modern comforts we’ve come to love.

Three Exhibitions on Now!

Clare is happy to announce that her piece Gilded Fern, one of the Empty Nests series, has been juried into the Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant biennial juried art exhibition. 372 works were submitted and 50 works were selected, Clare’s work being one of those pieces. The exhibition runs from March 25th to May 19th, 2023. The Glenhyrst Gallery Building is surrounded by beautiful gardens and has a tea room, so a visit to this galley can be part of a lovely day out.

Clare has a solo art exhibition hanging in North Bay at the NOVAH Gallery – 164 Lakeshore Rd from April 15th to May 31st, 2023. This exhibition is the first gallery showing of work from the series Empty Nests. The Opening is on Saturday April 15th from 1 – 3pm. Everyone is welcome! Clare will be in attendance. Thank you to the Ontario Arts Council for supporting this exhibition!

Clare is participating in a group exhibition, PLEXUS – Interdependence, Duty, and Survival, north of Tobermory at the Temiskaming Art Gallery (TAG). TAG is in a beautiful new building dedicated to arts and culture. It is beside Haileybury Beach on Lake Temiskaming. This exhibition is featuring Clare Ross, Michael Couchie, Jennifer Walton, Tina Poplawski, Lisa Murzin, and Christian Bernard Singer. PLEXUS runs from April 16 – May 26th 2023.

EMPTY NESTS

Clare’s current series is Empty Netss. Meeting People Where They Are: Empty Nests is a nature exhibition/experience centered around
bird’s nests. The exhibition brings a combination of original nests, deconstructed nests and reconstructed nests into people’s common spaces in ways that are interactive and thought-provoking.

CONVERSATIONS WITH NATURE

Clare’s previous series takes a close look at natural forms, rebuilding them after they’ve died or fallen apart. She reimagines parts of nature as if there was nothing left and human kind had to rediscover and rebuild beauty. She painstakingly constructs new and pure organic forms and then lights and photographs them in her studio, sometimes incorporating throw-away plastic as well. See seeks to answer the question: “If we destroy nature as we know it, what will we have left?”
